We held our annual council liaison officer event on June 17 in Edinburgh. A total of thirty-two delegates from nineteen different councils attended.
The Ombudsman, Jim Martin, gave the opening address, followed by David Robb, SPSO’s Director of Policy and Development. David gave an account of the SPSO’s annual statistics and their relevance to the local government sector.
There was then a panel discussion, at which three councils presented experiences and initiatives they have used to ensure complaints inform improvements in service delivery. The councils – The Highland, City of Edinburgh and Argyll and Bute - stimulated a good discussion between the panellists and the audience.
In the afternoon, Douglas Sinclair, the former Chair of the Fit for Purpose Complaints System Action Group, spoke about the implications of the Crerar Review and subsequent Parliamentary and Government responses. We are grateful to all our speakers, and to the delegates, for their participation in a lively and engaging conference.
