Scottish Welfare Fund Independent Review

Scottish Welfare Fund Independent Review: Making an application

Have you asked the council for a Crisis Grant, a Community Care Grant or a Self-Isolation Support Grant and are unhappy with its decision? If so, you should ask the council to look at its decision again. This is called asking for a first tier review.

Afterwards, if you are unhappy with the council’s final decision, you can use this form to ask us for an independent review.

We are not part of the council and our service is free.

You should only start this form if you have:

  • applied for a Crisis Grant, a Community Care Grant or a Self-Isolation Support Grant, and:
  • already asked the council for a first tier review and had their decision about that too.

We can only look at applications that were initially made with the council on 1 April 2016 or later. If you applied before this, you should ask your council for a second tier review. If you have any queries about this, you can phone our SWF team on 0800 014 7299.

If you don’t want to fill the form in online, you can contact us to make your application by phone (0800 014 7299), or you can download and print a form.

Here’s how we will consider your application.

We will collect and store personal information. We will be required to contact the council. If you would like to discuss this, or any other part of our process, please contact us.

You can find out about the types of personal data we may collect about you when you bring an application to us in our privacy notice. This notice also explains how we will store that data and keep it safe. You are welcome to ask us questions about this at any time. Please note: if you bring us a review application, we will normally share information with the Council who made the original welfare fund decision. If you have concerns about this, please contact us as soon as possible.
